About the Artwork

Passage is a mixed media painting by artist Gwen Davidson. She notes that the title and composition refer to two forms of passage. The flowing waves suggest passage over water, and reference her family's immigration. She notes that passage can also refer to the journey from the physical into the spiritual.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Transportation.

About the Artist

Gwen Davidson is a Portland, Oregon-based painter. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1974. She also studied painting and art history in Florence, Italy at the Drake University campus. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Portland State University in Portland in 1987.
