'Blue Sky/Black Birds' is a mixed-media painting by artist Kathleen Coyle, created by layering charcoal, pastel, pencil, and acrylic paint. Composed to capture a moment in time, Coyle notes that this piece explores life challenges and how we deal with them, reminding us "the birds will change direction, the sky will change color."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Whidbey School District.
About the Artist
Kathleen Coyle is a Seattle-based artist who creates textiles, mixed media artworks, and jewelry.
Coyle attended Kent State University as a Design and Craft major from 1975 to 1977. In the summer of 1977, she traveled around the United States before landing in Seattle. In 1982, she graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Design.
