About the Artwork

The Torch Song is a mixed-media artwork by artist Harlow Morgan. It combines a monotype print layer with hand-applied paint, pastel, and charcoal. This piece is part of the artist’s figurative work focused on intense and sometimes ambiguous subjects. She notes, “I am not interested in having the viewer knowing exactly what I feel about each image, but I do hope that they touch something familiar while one is in their presence. They are honest, powerful through their vulnerability and they do not turn away.” Monotypes are unique prints created by painting with inks directly onto the printing plate.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver Public Schools.
