About the Artwork

Inside is a mixed media ceramic painting created by artist Kathy Fridstein. She layered colorful oil paints onto a photograph, which she mounted to a background textured with sand. Ancient pictographs inspired her composition. She notes, "In Inside I employ a vocabulary of hand gestures and colors to relate the different emotional states that prevail over time inside the 'secure dwelling.'"

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
