About the Artwork
Love is Blind is a charcoal drawing by artist Gene Gentry McMahon. It shows two figures in a tropical landscape. The composition highlights the contrast between architectural and organic forms. The artist describes the figures as “icons” symbolizing all lovers. The drawing was created from imagination and based on a series of sketches the artist drew on site in Waikiki, Hawaii. The artist notes, "the traditional lovers' holiday setting of Waikiki represents paradise... possibly heaven."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Pierce College District.
About the Artist
Seattle-based artist Gene Gentry McMahon is a figurative painter and muralist. Her paintings look at society using a creative, humorous style. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Washington in Seattle.
