About the Artwork

Weight is a surreal, dream-like painting by artist Andrew Keating. He invites the viewer to form their own thoughts and impressions of this piece. He encourages you to question the relationship between the reclining figure and the floating head. Is the figure sleeping or weeping? Whom does the floating head represent? Keating notes, "I believe visual art should seek, allow and encourage poetic interpretation. There is no correct interpretation."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Pierce College District.
