About the Artwork
Counterpoint III is part of a series of eight monotype prints by artist Kay Rood. They explore abstract forms and color fields. Monotype printing combines elements of painting, drawing, and printmaking. Both the imagery and the process of creating this piece investigate the relationship between chaos and control. Monotypes are unique prints made by painting with inks directly onto the printing plate. Only one print can be made from the plate. The image is transferred onto paper using a printing press.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline College.
