About the Artwork

Remains To Be Seen #1 is an elaborate textile construction by artist Susan Brandeis. This piece was created by sewing together and assembling scraps of screen printed and textural fabrics the artist had cut away during the construction of other artworks. Combining motifs and themes from multiple pieces, Brandeis describes this piece as equivalent to "a free-form sketch--an abstract painting in thread and colored fabric instead of pen and paint, gestural rather than intellectual."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington School District.

Textile artist Susan Brandeis creates elaborate fiber compositions that explore and celebrate "the elements of Nature which ultimately lead to ecological harmony: growth and decay, order and chaos, agitation and tranquility, the ordinary and the sublime."
