About the Artwork
Artist Jon Gierlich created Voyage from recycled aircraft aluminum and yellow cedar strips. The abstract structure references a boat form. He created the sculpture for Seattle Central College, where it is suspended from the atrium ceiling.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle Central College.
About the Artist
Seattle-based artist Jon Gierlich (1941-2011) created conceptual installations and architectural designs. His art practice evolved out of a 20-year commercial construction career.
Gierlich received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He pursued graduate work at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He was a Design Professor for over twenty years at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington.
