About the Artwork

Life Sequence (triptych) is a three-panel drawing by artist Carolyn Law. She took a year to make them, adding layers and building up color and tone over time. She notes, "I wanted this drawing to be strongly colored because the ideas are forceful. The bowl/cup is mysterious, a deep still black on the top. The colors for the skin are purposely not realistic, the arms could be anybody at any time. Just as the arms are floating, so that they are not associated with any one type of person."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.

About the Artist

Seattle-based artist Carolyn Law balances a studio art and public art practice. She creates drawings, mixed-media artworks and sculptural installations. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
