About the Artwork
Ordinary Joy is part of artist Sally Sellers' series of quilts featuring house imagery. Sellers began the series after her young daughter was moved from home to a nursing facility due to serious illness. Sellers notes that the body of work was created as an expressive means to comfort herself and to challenge our concept of home. The house imagery in this piece is bordered by a row of zipper pulls, which look like glowing rays of light. Regarding the specific theme of this piece, Sellers notes: "there is much joy and wonder to be found in the ordinary. In fact, it is noticing the beautiful in the ordinary which brings joy."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
