About the Artwork
Sisters Three is a painting by artist Jo Fyfe. It is part of her body of artworks featuring a central circle. The circle represents unity and the connection between past, present and future. This piece features three figures in the traditional dress worn by Native American peoples of the Plateau region. They carry handwoven cornhusk bags. The grid of eagle features is meant to suggest "reverence for all of the creator's life forces which surround and support them…"
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver Public Schools.
About the Artist
Jo Fyfe explores color, texture, and narrative using a variety of materials and found objects.Born in Omak, Northeastern Washington, non-Native artist Jo Fyfe's artworks are influenced by the heritage of Native American cultures of the interior Pacific Northwest. She earned a Master in Fine Arts degree from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, and taught art for many years at Spokane Falls Community College. She is based in Spokane, Eastern Washington.
