Artist Leland Standley creates a sense of depth and misty atmosphere in his intricately colorful and detailed painting Magic Mountain. He states that his process to create expressive landscapes begins with "a big brush and a blank mind."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bellingham Technical College.

About the Artist

Northwest painter Leland Standley (1933-2016) created gestural and expressive landscapes. Describing his artistic process, Leland noted "I paint in the spirit that celebrates the union of humankind with nature". He was a resident of Vashon Island in South Puget Sound, Western Washington, for over 25 years.
