About the Artwork

'Islands in the Sky' is part of a body of paintings by artist Kathleen Caprario featuring landscape images bordered by gold-leafed frames. The decorative frames are meant to act as “beautiful windows” that offer the viewer a point of entry into the scene. This piece features bleak canyons and plateaus set beneath a growing storm. Sketches done on location inspired the imagery.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mukilteo School District.
