Two Bull Elks With a Fiery Sky: Trophy #9 is part of artist Francisco Alvarado-Juárez's series of mixed media paintings that investigate "nature and the destruction of our fragile environment." Characterized by its fragmented and irregular composition, this piece depicts fighting elk figures as symbols of the conquest of the American West.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Wenatchee Valley College.

About the Artist

New York City-based artist Francisco Alvarado-Juarez creates artworks in a variety of media, including painting, photography, video art, and mixed media installations.
Born in Honduras, Alvarado-Juarez moved to New York City in his teens. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York. He studied photography at the International Center for Photography in New York City and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
