Manya Shapiro
American (born 1937)

Location: Kokanee Elementary, Woodinville

About the Artwork

Manya Shapiro constructed Patterns by combining handmade and patterned papers with sewing pins. The composition evokes memories and associations with domestic work, while the organic texture of the paper is reminiscent of a natural landscape. Shapiro notes, "the overall composition could be interpreted as a reference to fiber as a basic element of both the world around us, and the manmade objects we use."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Northshore School District.
