About the Artwork
History of Art (in 6 Easy Lessons) is part of artist Ellen Sollod's series titled "Past is Prologue" based on art history. It draws images and ideas to bring the viewer from Greek and Roman times up to one of the most important paintings of the 20th Century, Picasso's "Guernica". The prints include partial images and ideas from artworks by well-known, 20th century artists such as Botticelli, Ingres, Kandinsky, and Picasso. Sollod began this series at an artist residency at Centrum, a center for the arts in Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula in Northwest Washington. She completed the series at an artist residency at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
