About the Artwork

The Red Room is part of a series of paintings created by artist Alison Johnston that are inspired by rural life on San Juan Island in the north Puget Sound. An avid gardener, many of her interior scenes feature imagery of an elaborate bouquet of flowers. Johnston describes her expressive process as combining "pieces of reality collected and rearranged from the immense visual and spiritual diary of life."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Nooksack Valley School District.
