About the Artwork

Quilt is part of artist Jose Orantes' body of paintings inspired by the jungles of his native Guatemala. This piece combines colorful patterns with natural imagery to depict "the harmony between animals and their environment."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Yakima School District.

About the Artist

Seattle-based artist Jose Orantes creates vibrantly colored and patterned paintings and public murals that explore universal and personal themes. Born and raised in Guatemala, Orantes studied painting and sculpture at the National School of Art in Guatemala. He has also taught art in schools and other venues across Washington.
