About the Artwork
Courtship is a whimsical and richly detailed painting by artist Isabel Sim Hamilton. It is part of a body of artworks that study how humans relate to themselves and their environment by casting various animals in human roles. She notes that this piece "in particular deals with the relationship between a man and a woman. I am fascinated with 'odd' couples. I see pairs all around me that have a mysterious connection that I cannot imagine… I want the couple to have a magic that is explicable only to themselves."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Union Gap School District.
