About the Artwork

The landscape Down Hill by artist Liang Wei uses color, light, and shadow to investigate how images of nature can represent universal human feelings. Capturing the beauty of the northwest landscape, Liang hopes to "inspire people to appreciate our living environment, which leads our aspirations to reality."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Elma School District.

About the Artist

Artist Liang Wei creates paintings that explore the color relationships and the quality of light found in the Pacific Northwest landscape.

Born in Sichuan, China, Liang Wei began studying art as a child, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Master of Arts in Printmaking from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. In 1989, he moved to Seattle as a visiting scholar at the University of Washington's Audio-Visual Education Center for two years. He lives and works in Bothell, Washington.
