About the Artwork

Artist Kim Hoffman created the wood sculpture British Columbia Dream Day from local hardwoods. He began using salmon images in his artworks in 1989. The artist’s experience as a fisherman inspired these sculptures. He sees the salmon as “an icon of life, the struggle of birth, growth, and death.” He based this piece on the Sockeye and Chinook salmon he observed while fishing on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Hoffman notes, “The title reflects the concept that I carried in my head of what a great day of fishing might look like in British Columbia.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Longview School District.

About the Artist

Hoffman received a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
