The Beauty of Yakima, 2025

Cara Enteles

Location: Apple Valley Elementary, Yakima

About the Artwork

The Beauty of Yakima by Cara Enteles is inspired by the natural beauty of the Yakima Valley in Central Washington. The two paintings bring the local landscape, flowers, and animals into Apple Valley Elementary. They are a daily reminder of the nature just outside the front doors which is part of why the community is proud to live there. Local wild flowers including blanket flower, cushion phlox, lupine, and sagebrush violet are in the foreground. Local animals are hidden in the plants, including a cougar with cubs, great horned and barred owls, rabbits, and painted lady butterflies. Enteles notes, “My work is the result of my fascination and study of the natural world.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with West Valley School District, Yakima.

About the Artist

Cara Enteles' art explores the relationships and conflicts of humans versus nature. “My work is the result of my fascination and study of the natural world.” Her unique technique builds up layers of paint on transparent acrylic sheets or reflective aluminum panels. The effect creates paintings that change with the light, mimicking nature.

Enteles lives and works in the western Catskill mountains of Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City, and she also studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.
