About the Artwork
Aperture by Jill Anholt expresses the vortexes, eddies, cascades, and flows of the Spokane River that is just beyond the sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Fine Arts and Photography Building. The art glass installation evokes the creativity, energy, and dynamism that resides throughout the building and the art department. The imagery appears as a continuous, highly visible and fluid element running across the upper façade of the building’s windows. Anholt created the art glass using a highly reflective chromium frit glass that mirrors the surrounding campus and the conditions of the sky.
The Local Art Selection Committee wanted the artwork to push boundaries conceptually and abstractly, link to the river and land, and honor the Spokane and Salish Tribes, and highlight the building's unique dark and light spaces.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Community Colleges of Spokane.
About the Artist
