About the Artwork
Up/on by Kalina Chung consists of two, blue-painted, stainless steel forms that reference the glaciers that shaped the North Seattle College campus and region. The steel forms also look like topographical maps. Chung read articles by Geology Professor John Figge about how the Ice Age glaciers and icebergs carved pathways, deposited sediment, and melted into the ground, forming the hills we are on today. Chung also acquired the exact topography of the four icebergs from Professor Figge and used two of them in her sculpture.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Seattle College.
About the Artist
Kalina Chung is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Seattle. Her art is about universal themes linked to human relationships, existence, and interaction—our tangible and intangible connections with the natural world.Kalina Chung earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2016 from the 3D4M Program (3-Dimensional Forum, includes ceramics, glass, and sculpture) at the University of Washington in Seattle.
