About the Artwork

Shasta-Lassen is a colorful and energetic painting by artist Ryan Molenkamp. It is part of his series of landscapes featuring mountains and volcanoes. The title takes its name from two active volcanoes in the Cascade Mountain Range. Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen are both located in Northern California. Curator Kathleen Garrett selected this artwork as part of a curated collection for Peninsula College in Port Angeles. The artworks installed in the Allied Health Building emphasize bright colors and unusual materials. This building is used for Nursing and Early Childhood Education programs.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.

About the Artist

Seattle artist Ryan Molenkamp creates graphic representations of the mountains and volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. He combines geology, topographical data, and digital technology with intense colors and mind-bending perspectives. The scenes suggest a sense of place and wonder.
Molenkamp earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Northwestern Washington.
