About the Artwork

Vista is an abstract wall sculpture by artists Sean Healy and Joe Thurston. Thousands of colored pencils make up this inventive piece, like pixels in a digital image. The nearby landscape of Richland, Southeastern Washington, inspired the patterns, colors, and forms. The artists note that this artwork is “meant to encourage and support the student body to discover, explore, and cherish the unique landscape of the Columbia River Basin.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Richland School District.
