About the Artwork

Artist Dane Youngren's hand-built ceramic sculptures acquire their dark patina as the result of ash from the wood burning firing process. The coloration and form of Mine Shaft #10 evoke fragility and abandonment.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.

About the Artist

Dane Youngren is a Stanwood, Washington-based artist. He creates ceramic sculptures that explore ideas about architecture and the built environment.
Youngren received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Economics from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, in 2010. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at Washington State University the following year. He has served as an artist-in-residence at Pottery Northwest in Seattle.
