About the Artwork
Escalation Portrait: Red by artist team Scott Kolbo and Lance Sinnema is inspired by the volatile language that surrounds our political discussion. They collected phrases and words found in the news, political ads, and online comments. These were translated into physical forms and literal weapons that they used in a mock battle for complete victory. The battle performance was filmed and selected still shots were printed and passed back and forth between the artists, who worked on each photograph separately with charcoal and ink. The results are warm, funny, and mocking.
This artwork is one of three at Peninsula College from Kolbo and Sinnema's Escalation series.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.
