About the Artwork

Lakeside by Seattle painter Nathan DiPietro studies "civilization’s response to the Northwest landscape". The painting examines real-world struggles such as natural versus manmade environments, developer versus preservationist, indigenous versus invasive species. DiPietro paints with a high level of detail on purpose and gives equal attention to all subject matter: sweeping views and repetitious man-made landscapes, vacant lots and old growth forests. He notes that "neither is given a stylistic advantage in terms of beauty or status".

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.
