About the Artwork

Artist Janet Essley's colorful, four-part mural Transformation represents the world of education, where students explore their world guided by patterns taught and revealed by their teachers. The four paintings reference the natural landscape around the school in Auburn, Western Washington, and suggest the potential for the future. Their organic shapes are inspired by Auburn-area lakes and the school's namesake, Lakeland, an Auburn neighborhood.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Federal Way Public Schools.

About the Artist

Northwest artist Janet Essley creates paintings and public murals. Her imagery is influenced by her work in forestry and biological research, as well as the diverse cultures she encounters while traveling.

Essley earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Fine Arts degreerts in painting and drawing from California State University, Chico.
