About the Artwork

Basil Paused at the Edge of a Thicket is part of artist Shelley Moore's series "Mysteries of the Garden." This series features sculptural silhouettes of animals painted with thematic imagery. She notes, "The silhouettes have functioned as windows into microworlds (real or imagined) in which the painted images within the larger form tell a story." The main badger form of this piece is painted with images of a birds nest among branches, with a flower and the wings of a bird.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
