School of Fish, 2011

Julie Prather
American (born 1942)

Location: Shorewood Elementary, Burien

About the Artwork

Artist Julie Prather collaborated with students at Shorewood Elementary to create the School of Fish stained glass artwork. She asked students to draw the most creative sea creatures they could imagine. Prather chose twenty-six drawings and reincarnated them into five stained glass window panels. The final artwork shows nature, growth, life-cycles, movement, community, and a sense of place. Twenty-six different fish are depicted in School of Fish to represent the diversity at the school. By including students, the community at the school feels a strong connection to the finished artwork.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.
