American (born 1953)

Location: Spanaway Middle School, Tacoma

About the Artwork

Artist Roger Nachman's Life Rhythms is a fused glass mural. The artwork is a flowing, colorful ribbon of symbols that are familiar and meaningful to the students of Spanaway Middle School. Colored glass objects such as a filmstrip, yo-yo, saxophone, musical notes, puffer fish, soccer ball, and more are fused onto fourteen glass panels. It is installed across the large windows of the school’s commons area where students eat lunch, hang out, and attend performances. Nachman notes that it represents "a variety of geometric and organic stimuli along the continuum of our lives."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
