Haiying Wu's Salmon Gate is like a river with a school of fish. It represents the children at Carson Elementary in Puyallup and the journey of their life.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Puyallup School District.

About the Artist

Artist Haiying Wu creates figurative sculptures for public spaces. Born in China, Wu attended the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He worked as a sculptor creating public artworks in Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province. After emigrating to the United States, Wu earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has created well-known memorials around the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the United States. He is based in Western Washington.
