About the Artwork

Continual Progressions by artist team Bruce Andersen and Shannon Andersen is a three-part art installation that welcomes students, staff, and visitors to Hazel Valley Elementary in Burien, Western Washington. They created hand-formed, stoneware tile plaques for each of the school's four "pods." Each one is titled after a geographic element in Western Washington near the school: the Columbia River, Paradise at Mount Rainier, and Puget Sound. The imagery includes flowers, leaves, insects, and birds. The artwork focuses on the idea of growth and movement, and reflects the journey through the early school experience.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.
