Favorite Things I Like to do Outside, 2006
Julie Prather
American (born 1942)
Location: Fryelands Elementary, Monroe
About the Artwork
Artist Julie Prather worked with the students of Fryelands Elementary in Monroe, Northwest Washington, to create the ‘Favorite Things I Like to do Outside’ stained glass artwork. The twenty-one windows are found throughout the school. Prather worked with the Art Selection Committee to identify the theme “favorite things I like to do outside.” Teachers then asked students to create drawings on that theme and each student submitted one drawing. Prather chose twenty-three drawings and reincarnated them into the twenty-one stained glass window panels. The final artwork shows children camping, kite-flying, playing sports, blowing bubbles, fishing, riding a horse, and more. By including students, the community at the school feels a strong connection to the finished artwork.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Monroe School District.
