About the Artwork

Haiying Wu's The Spirit of the Sky sculpture features a large hawk surrounded with three, interlocking, stainless steel rings representing Science, English, and Technology.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Hockinson School District.

About the Artist

Artist Haiying Wu creates figurative sculptures for public spaces. Born in China, Wu attended the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He worked as a sculptor creating public artworks in Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province. After emigrating to the United States, Wu earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the University of Washington in Seattle. He has created well-known memorials around the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the United States. He is based in Western Washington.
