About the Artwork
Alluvial Benchmarks by artist Pam Beyette tells the story of the White River plateau in Western Washington. The focus is on its geologic past as well as humanity's imprint on its formation. Cross-sectioned boulders are carved with motifs representing aspects of the region's history and unique landscape. Stone fragments "float" on a river of stainless steel, as a metaphor for knowledge – carving and shaping a future and carrying the past. Alluvial Benchmarks was cut and carved from a single granite boulder.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with White River School District.
