About the Artwork
Northwest sculptor James Lapp created Rain as an exploration into the simple and elegant form of the umbrella. This piece is part of a series of steel works based on common objects that introduce other visual imagery and interpretations. Lapp notes: "the abstract quality of the surface also has a map-like quality, like an aerial photograph with streams or glaciers pouring off a mountain top."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
