About the Artwork

Origins is a print by artist Jay Haavik that combines a border inspired by Viking-era designs with interior imagery of animal forms based on Indigenous Northwest Coast art. The central figures reference many different creatures and forms, including a hummingbird, tulip, salmon, butterfly, snake, and bear. The artist notes that this piece "is intended to be abstract, and hopefully the viewer will see something different every time."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
