About the Artwork

Artist Hugh Webb created the painting Olympic Forest by layering paint over a gold leaf background. The abstract ring motif is a common pattern found in many of Webb's paintings. This piece is part of a group of works inspired by the western landscape. He notes, "As an avid fly fisherman, I spend considerable amounts of time in the outdoors and am continually surprised and amazed by this western landscape that surrounds us. For quite some time, I have been documenting various places of importance to me and subsequently use these as inspirations for paintings. In doing this, it keeps those places alive in my memory."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Cheney School District.

About the Artist

Webb earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah and a Master of Fine Arts degree (1969) from the University of Oregon. He has taught at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Spokane Falls Community College, and Portland Community College in Oregon.
