About the Artwork
Rock, Paper, Scissors is a print by artist Steven Scheibe. The artwork features photographic images of twin boys layered under drawings of rocks, a paper airplane, and a pair of craft scissors. It references the rock, paper scissors game that is played using your hands to represent "rock" (a fist), "paper" (a flat hand), and "scissors" (a fist with the index finger and middle finger in a V). Scheibe notes that this artwork "celebrates the playfulness of youth." Scheibe created this print using a stone lithography process from the 1700s. First, he drew the image onto a stone using a crayon. He wetted the stone and applied ink, which stuck only to the crayon-drawn areas. He then printed the image onto paper.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Quincy School District.
