Passage in Stone is part of a body of paintings by artist Kathleen Caprario featuring landscape images bordered by decorative frames. This piece was created at Wupatki National Monument in Northeast Arizona. This monument is the site of Anasazi ruins. The painting draws on the intricate brickwork and dramatic setting of the location. She states that it "speaks to the antiquity and Native American Heritage of the Southwest."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highland School District.
