About the Artwork
Artist Roger Nachman's fused glass installation Discoveries represents microscopic imagery relating to the forensic sciences. The artwork is located at the Washington State Patrol's Toxicology Lab in Seattle that provides DNA testing and materials analysis related to crime investigations. A double helix design spans the four main glass panels and represents the spiraling physical structure of DNA in genetics science. Nachman notes that the tile designs are "representations of the seemingly abstract patterns and puzzle pieces that the forensic scientists see daily through their microscopes."
Discoveries is made up of four large glass panels, plus five individual fused glass pieces that are located at the entrances to five different labs.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Patrol.
