About the Artwork
Blue Angel is a mysterious painting by artist Denise Anderson. She describes the symbolism, noting, “A figure is walking into the depths of the sea full of letters and numbers, perhaps the sea of knowledge and understanding. What is seen of the arms suggests the movement of wings. A quest for the heights, as well as, the depths, and ultimately, a place of balance." Anderson created the textured background using a comb-like tool before the paint dried. She then re-defined the figure with charcoal and used stencils to create the letters and numbers.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver Public Schools.
