60 Smiles, 2000

Margaret Liston
American (born 1946)

Location: Lakeview Elementary School, Kirkland

About the Artwork

Margaret Liston conceived of her quilt 60 Smiles as a "little altar", which she describes as something that can "call attention and pay homage to what is featured." The smiling faces are composed from different floral fabrics, meant to represent our racial diversity. The overall design is inspired by a Japanese vase patterned with stylized faces.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington School District.
