About the Artwork

Isaac Newton Chair is part of artist Ries Niemi's series of powder-coated steel chairs that depict and celebrate famous figures and the concepts and ideas that surround each person. This chair commemorates the great natural philosopher, mathematician and physicist Sir Isaac Newton, whose theories and principles are fundamental to many different scientific fields.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Edmonds School District.

About the Artist

Artist and craftsman Ries Niemi creates sculptures and public installations using industrial fabrication techniques and industrial materials such as metal, wood, and plastics. He lives and works in the small town of Bow, Northwestern Washington.
