About the Artwork
Janice Maple created the painting Where Are You Going? to explore how we choose a direction for ourselves when facing an unknown future. The composition splits in the center, with two silhouetted figures each heading off in opposite directions. She notes, "Much of the delight of art making is the interaction of my mind with the developing painting; there's a communication going on and I always gain some insights or fresh ideas. I am attracted to the painting process as a way of exploring psychological and spiritual content."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Spokane Public Schools.
