About the Artwork
Lake Louise is part of artist Karen Mobley’s series of mixed media paintings titled “An Unstable Cartography (Maps Not to Scale).” She made the series from topographic maps, forest service maps, and navigational charts collaged in pieces with paint and other materials. The abstract series challenges how we read and interpret maps, and how we form a sense of place. She notes, “I love the idea of maps and am especially enamored with the notion that because of liability even if you get a good one it has a disclaimer that you shouldn’t really use it because it might be wrong.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Grandview School District.
